I mentioned when discussing the idea for my film that I wanted to incorporate some type of animation into the piece. I think an animatic would be the best choice; I think it would give that "work in progress" feel that the film is about rather than any other type of animation.
I considered doing lego stop motion again, but I don't think it would really fit in with this idea. I also considered doing a full animation, but that would require a lot of time. I believe that an animatic would work well for what I'm trying to do.
First of all, what exactly is an animatic?
Well, an animatic is a preliminary version of a movie. Basically, it's a story board turned into a video with an added soundtrack (an animated storyboard).
The goal of an animatic is to define the timing of a piece. So, the frames of the storyboard have been timed to provide a basic idea of what the finished video is going to look like.
Animatics are used mainly in the pre-production stage of a film or animation. This is part of the reason why I think an animatic would work best for my film, as it conveys that the story isn't finished; it's a rough draft that's still being edited.
Animatics are quick to produce since they are derived from the story board and don't require a smooth or completed look.
This is an example of an animatic (left) and an animation (right) from Boords |
Despite the fact the animatics are quick to produce and don't require as much as a full out animation, I'm still going to be doing my best to make it look good (so no stick figures).
I'm still not 100% sure what the characters are going to look like (I know I want there to be 2) or what they're going to be doing.
Anyway, that's all for today.
Until next time...
